Back from Australia: Time for a Reset

Back from Australia: Time for a Reset

A month ago, I stepped away from my usual routine and headed off on what I thought would be a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Leaving for a month, travelling to the other side of the world, felt like a big step. The planning, packing, organising—it was stressful in itself.

But what I experienced went far beyond a holiday.

It was a reset.

Once we arrived and settled in, something shifted.

No deadlines.
No constant notifications.
No rushing from one thing to the next.

Instead, there was space.

Vast landscapes. Wildlife moving through its day without urgency. Moments that made me stop—properly stop—and take it all in.

Australia has a way of doing that.

Life feels slower. People feel more relaxed. And yes—the weather helped too, especially compared to home.

But somewhere between watching the ocean stretch endlessly ahead of me and noticing how naturally life flows when you’re not forcing it… something clicked.

I don’t want to bounce back into work.

I want to reset.

Coming home means routines return. Work picks up. Life speeds up again.

But I didn’t want to leave that feeling behind.

Because the problem with “going back to normal” is how easy it is to slip straight into old habits:

  • Saying yes too quickly

  • Filling every gap in the calendar

  • Letting work bleed into personal time

  • Measuring productivity by how busy we are

And the truth is—if we return exactly as we were, we lose everything we gained from stepping away.

A holiday isn’t just rest.

It’s perspective.

Ignore that, and you waste it.

What Nature Taught Me

Watching wildlife, nothing felt rushed—but everything still got done.

No overthinking.
No constant urgency.
Just presence.

That’s what stayed with me:

  • Being fully in the moment

  • Responding, not reacting

  • Doing what matters—not everything

And honestly? That’s the energy I want to bring back into my work.

Designing My “Perfect Week”

I’ve reworked what my week looks like so I don’t fall back into old patterns.

Not based on pressure—but on priorities.

Here’s what that looks like:

1. Clear Focus Time
Dedicated space for meaningful work—no distractions.

2. Boundaries That Actually Hold
Finishing at a set time. Not “just one more thing.”

3. Time That’s Mine
Walks. Thinking space. Doing nothing—without guilt.

4. Fewer, Better Commitments
Saying yes with intention, not habit.

5. Regular Reset Points
A weekly check-in: What’s working? What isn’t?

Because balance isn’t something you find—it’s something you build.

Staying Present When Life Speeds Up Again

Let’s be real—life will get busy again.

I know myself. I like being busy.

But being present isn’t about having less to do.

It’s about how you show up while doing it.

For me, that means:

  • Pausing before reacting

  • Not overloading my days

  • Letting “good enough” be enough

  • Remembering not everything needs to happen today

Do You Need a Reset?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stuck in constant motion, try this:

Ask yourself:

  • What actually matters this week?

  • What can wait?

  • What do I need more of right now?

And most importantly:

Where am I making things harder than they need to be?

You don’t need a month away to reset.

You just need a moment of honesty—and the courage to do things differently.

Final Thought

I didn’t just come back with photos and memories.

I came back with clarity.

And I’m choosing not to lose it.

Because the goal isn’t to escape your life…

It’s to build one you don’t need to escape from.
